A folk costume workshop
We founded Polskie Stroje Ludowe in 1992 in Chełmno. Today the third generation of the family is involved in the business. Our costumes are made by craftspeople in small workshops – from cutting and sewing to embroidery. Our patterns are based on ethnographic and museum documentation.

From a folk group to a family workshop
We started in Chełmno, in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian region. Today the next generation of the family runs the business, and we make costumes for folk groups, schools, rural women’s clubs, institutions and the Polish diaspora.
We help you choose costumes and sizes – by phone and email. You can order costumes for a group, a single item, or add to an earlier order.

We know the stage
As qualified folk dance choreographers, we understand what the stage requires and help match costumes to the character of the dances.
Our costumes are worn by groups in Poland and in countries including Lithuania, Germany, France, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, the UK, the USA, Brazil, Argentina, Australia and New Zealand.

How our costumes are made
We develop our own patterns, based on ethnographic and museum documentation. They are sewn by family workshops and craftspeople we have worked with for years: a sewing room in Kashubia, embroiderers from Kuyavia and Kashubia, saddlers and shoemakers.
We make wreaths, coral beads and other accessories ourselves.

Materials and craftsmanship
We use Polish fabrics. Materials and finishing are chosen for each costume item.
Our striped wool fabrics are hand-woven by weavers we have worked with for years. For dance groups, schools and village women’s associations we also make more affordable versions – in durable fabrics that don’t crease and are easy to wash. Ask about them when requesting a quote.

Workshop and shop
Made-to-order costumes are sewn in our workshop. Ready-made items – blouses, skirts, bodices, shoes and accessories – are available right away in our online shop.
